Police say what may be a case of mistaken identity turned into tragedy early Monday morning when a Kingston man was gunned down by attackers while washing another person's car along Gordon Road, off Slipe Pen Road.

The deceased has been identified as 32 year old Tevin Sherwood, who investigators believe was not the intended target of the deadly attack.

Reports are that about 12:45 a.m., armed men drove up to a motor vehicle parked along the roadway and opened fire. Sherwood, who was washing the vehicle at the time, was struck by bullets and later pronounced dead.

Police believe the gunmen were seeking the owner of the motor vehicle.

Residents of Gordon Road have expressed shock at the killing, describing Sherwood as a quiet individual who was not known to be involved in criminal activity or violence.

Following the incident, the Kingston Western Police imposed a 48 hour curfew in sections of the division. The curfew took effect at 6:00 p.m. on Monday and is scheduled to remain in force until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

As at February 7, the Kingston Western Police Division recorded two murders as investigators continue efforts to stem violent crimes within the area.
