Some $59 million is being spent on the installation of the Chesterfield Bridge in St Mary.

"Residents have waited patiently and are equally happy to note that the commitment made by the Government is being fulfilled," Prime Minister Andrew Holness stated on social media on Thursday.

Holness last year made an election promise to the residents that a structure would be erected in the area in order to ensure that the community is accessible during times of inclement weather.

In February, E.G. Hunter, chief executive officer of the National Works Agency, said the bridge is one of seven that are now being fabricated in China for delivery by the end of March.

The NWA said preparatory works have already started in relation to the bridge installation project.
